Caring for Your Birdhouse
Please place your birdhouse in a shady area with less than 3 hours of direct sun. We use marine varnish on all of our custom-made birdhouses. This finish protects your birdhouse from the elements, so you do not have to store it inside.
If you hang your birdhouse in the direct sun, please re-apply marine varnish or something comparable yearly. Otherwise, reapply every 2 to 3 years if you place it in a shady area.
Cleaning your birdhouse is your decision, but some birds like a clean nesting area to lay eggs, and some do not.
Never use cleaning products in your birdhouse. The chemical residue can kill nestlings. Using water is perfectly fine.
